A young man who lived 800 years ago, Francis of Assisi, taught the world in his own way to live with only what was necessary, to respect nature and to value the figure and role of women. His renunciation of his father’s wealth and the power that came with it, his love for every element of nature and in particular for animals, as emerges from his Canticle of the Creatures, his Testament and the chronicles and official documents of the time, his support for Clare of Assisi and the foundation of the Poor Clares, his choice to communicate all this in a language that could be understood by as many people as possible, his Umbrian vernacular, all this, therefore, beyond the sainthood that the Catholic Church has chosen to recognise him, makes him a protagonist, listened to and taken as a model by many, underestimated or ignored by many others, in the path of awareness of the values he expressed in language and form, even with all the conditioning of the context in which he lived.
This year marks the 800th anniversary of the death of Francis of Assisi, and we will also commemorate it in Craft World, a world, or rather a corner of the world, that Francis would probably smile upon. He would certainly smile. Let us not forget his questioning of “perfect joy”, certainly an unattainable goal in any natural or digital world we find ourselves in, but one based on a sense of community and dialogue, from which we can draw small moments of serenity in sharing interests and experiencing that playing at being children and having fun together repays us, even if only infinitesimally, for how disappointing or unsustainable the reality and digital world around us can be.
And so, from this vision, Noilab 2 – Craft World’s Treasure Hunt, “Respect the animals”, was born, conceived by Tonino Lane and created in collaboration with Lorenza Colicigno and Sergeji Zarf.
Wandering around Sim Noilab 2, participants will search for various animals that inhabit Noilan 2 Island, not to “hunt” them, but to “add” them to their avatars, a symbolic act of reuniting humanity and nature, a game that will make us reflect and have fun together.
An evening of entertainment awaits you, ending with themed music, the customary finale with the usual cups, prizes and group photos, but above all, with lots of shared joy.
